In 2008, Mr. Shang Dai established “Daishang Scholarship” (changed to “Renben Scholarship” in 2010) at Nankai University. Students enrolled in second to fourth year of Nankai University School of Law are eligible for the Scholarship. Based on the principle of equal attention to academic and physical education, “Renben Scholarship” emphasizes on awarding young scholars with athletic proficiency. Nankai University School of Law specially set up a “Renben Scholarship Evaluation Committee” to come forth with the detailed evaluation criteria.
Mr. Boling Zhang, founder of the University has been deemed as Father of Nankai. His emphasis on Physical Education and enthusiasm in promoting the national fitness and national sports competition has earned him the upmost respect by the country. Mr. Zhang said that “the purpose of education was not just for students to learn how to read and write, but for shaping a complete and balanced character, an all-around development of moral, intelligent and physical education.” “However, what we Chinese people most lack was physical education.” “The education was not complete without physical education. Therefore PE was most important in my opinion. One cannot be the principal of a University if he or she does not understand physical education.”
Dai & Associates has long recognized an obligation to give back to the community for all we have received – to help right the wrongs of the society, both in the United States and in China, and to work for a just world. We see that an outstanding team of lawyers must first be a group of people with sense of responsibility and the sense of calling for the society.
The establishment of Renben Scholarship embodied the firm’s active support of China’s educational reform, and demonstrated the firm’s culture in cherishing and nurturing talents.
